Night

Night in this novel has a lot of meaning. Everything bad that Elie has to go through tends to happen at night.  He has to witness the night sky being lit up from the flames that are devouring children. The dark of the night also represents how Elie's soul begins to darken and he starts losing his faith in God.  I chose this picture because to me the stars represent the lights of those Elie is surrounded by that are still clinging to their faith even when surrounded by darkness.
